French Tureen 1819-1838

Item:  French Sterling (.950) Tureen

Maker:  Hyacinthe Prosper Bourg, Paris, second quarter of the 19th century.

Description:  The tureen has cast and applied handles, and detachable finial.  The tureen weighs 35.4 troy ounces,  and measures approximately 9 inches to the top of the finial and 10 3/4 inces across the handles.

Condition:  There are hallmarks for the Association of Gold and Silversmiths (1793), the Paris large guarantee mark (1819-38), and the maker mark.  Very good condition. The hallmarks are on the outside and inside of the lid rim, and by the handle and under the base of the body.  There is some rubbing to the bottom marks - the rim hallmarks are crisp.  There is a period monogram in a shield on the lid and body.
