Item: Art Nouveau Check Cutter - coded B2183 - 925/1000 Fine Silver
Maker: Gorham, Rhode Island, circa 1900
Description: A cast sterling check cutter with a strong nouveau - Martele influence. Gorham produced a number of items where they have cast in "hammer marks" suggesting the more expensive Martele work. However, being cast, they were much more affordable. The cutter displays the high art nouveau style of the period. It has a reinforced edge for proper tearing. It measures 8 1/4 inches long, and weighs 3.1 troy ounces.
